Clubs NSW CLubLIFE

Project Overview
Our Product Team took over from an agency who did a sub-par approach to what Clubs NSW was trying to achieve, at a very costly rate. We took the project in-house and took over and ironed out many issues, including updating the style guide, fixing accessibility standards, creating proper components and more importantly, creating a better user journey for the end user.

My Contributions
My first job was to look at the site structure, as it had no proper flow and was not intuitive at all. We then had to look at componentry, which had not been considered or designed for both mobile and desktop. A mega menu was also built which had not been factored into the original build and required creative thinking to make it as user friendly as possible

Approach

We didn’t need to start a design system from scratch, but we needed to add more components. Some needed to be redesigned, and some components needed to be built from scratch and added to the design system. The challenge sometimes is harder when you have to start from a midway point, rather than from a blank screen, but we achieved continuity with great success.

Develop

Using the templates in place we cleaned up the spacing and the accessibility issues we came across. We also needed to build in the mega menu and a complex event listing and booking system had to be designed from scratch. This also had to be designed for mobile, which had not been taken into consideration.

Deliver

Myself, the UX team, the developers managed to create a website that is now to the company branding style and also has a CMS so contributors can log in and add stories to the site. This was a challenging but also rewarding project as we had many outside hurdles to overcome as well as build something that was replacing a 25-year-old magazine, so we wanted to keep its integrity, but also not scare off new and old users.
