Clubs NSW Redesign

Clubs NSW's outdated website required a comprehensive redesign to better serve a diverse range of stakeholders, including club owners and regular patrons seeking information. Given the organization's multiple divisions, the project demanded a streamlined and intuitive menu and navigation system to effectively showcase the varied information while enhancing user accessibility and experience.

The Clubs NSW website required a complete overhaul to address the needs of its diverse stakeholders, including club owners and regular patrons seeking information. With numerous divisions operating under the organization, effectively showcasing varied content demanded the implementation of a user-friendly menu and navigation system.

Each division of the website had its own distinct style, resulting in an inconsistent user experience and a disorganized sitemap. Additionally, while the website contained valuable information—particularly on regulations within the Clubs and Hospitality Industry—it was presented in an unengaging and overly dry manner.

The outdated menu system frequently caused users to become frustrated and abandon the site, often resorting to calling the hotline for assistance. To address these issues, the website required a complete refresh, both in functionality and style, to align with modern design standards and enhance the overall user experience.

Problem Statement

The outdated Clubs NSW website lacked an intuitive navigation system, making it difficult for diverse stakeholders to access relevant information. A redesign was needed to improve usability, streamline access, and better serve user needs.

Project Overview

Obstacle

This project was initiated independently by the Product Team, as we recognized that the existing website did not effectively represent our work or portray the business in a favorable light. Due to time constraints, we were unable to conduct comprehensive market research, map user journeys, or identify the website's pain and gain points.

However, leveraging the expertise within our product team, we applied established best practices in UI/UX design and relied on our collective insights to guide the redesign process. While this effort focused more on enhancing usability and making incremental improvements, it fell short of the in-depth, data-driven overhaul we would have ideally preferred.

Menu System

The primary challenge was to create a more user-friendly menu system to address the difficulty users faced navigating the numerous pages, articles, and products on the website.

To solve this, we implemented a dual-approach navigation solution: a streamlined main menu system with an integrated search function for the primary Clubs NSW website and a comprehensive mega menu for a high-level overview of products and services.

This approach, commonly adopted by large organizations, effectively simplifies navigation and mitigates information overload when dealing with an extensive range of offerings.

Home Page

The previous homepage lacked clear calls to action and suffered from a cluttered design, necessitating a complete overhaul.

Drawing inspiration from best practices adopted by prominent businesses, we identified a clear structure to capture user attention and guide their experience. The homepage was restructured to address key questions upfront: Who are we? What do we do? Secondary elements, such as positive stories, board members, and contact details, were thoughtfully integrated to provide additional value without overwhelming the user.

To improve navigation across sections and articles, we introduced a wireframed vertical menu system. This feature allows users to seamlessly jump to specific topics within a category, minimizing the need for excessive scrolling and enhancing the overall user experience.

Refinement

After finalizing the wireframes and establishing the information hierarchy, we developed dedicated product and article pages. These pages were designed with a consistent layout to ensure a cohesive user experience, while employing strategic use of color to visually differentiate between the two content types.

Final Product

Here is the prototype we presented to the board, demonstrating the development and prototyping expertise applied to create a clean, cohesive, and fully responsive website that meets accessibility standards.

From the outset, we recognized this was an internally initiated project and understood that approval from key board members would be necessary, particularly given the scale of the proposed rebrand.

Unfortunately, due to significant leadership changes, the project was deprioritized and ultimately not implemented. Despite this outcome, the team took pride in delivering a high-quality solution, and the presentation was met with positive feedback from stakeholders.
